Individual Meth Counseling For A Better Life

For someone trying to leave the life of meth addiction, meth group counseling should be seriously considered. The services are formulated to enable the addict to be set free from their addiction and to begin a healthy, productive life. The center you choose to enter is guided by a philosophy specifically formulated to help those suffering from the destruction of meth.

Holistic Approach

A holistic approach is recommended for a person who goes to an institution to be counseled. A therapeutic relationship is created between the client and the institution. Your mental health is of prime importance to the therapists employed by the facility.

Services

Individual counseling, group therapy and long-term therapy will be provided. Families alcohol program services are also made available to meet the specific needs of the peripheral affects of drug abuse. Family therapy will focus on issues that arise in a family where one person suffers from substance abuse.

Couples Therapy

Couples can also find therapy if they have been in a committed relationship for at least one year. This is a service that will help couples deal with the issues that they have related to addiction. One of the issues focused on is how to have healthy communication.

Art and Recovery

Creative arts are used to help people express themselves through their art. Individuals can participate in this therapy and it will enhance their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Psychiatric evaluation includes a review of the problems that are facing an individual. A complete psychiatric and medical history is done for each patient.

Referrals

The needs of a client are assessed by the center providing the service and a patient will receive necessary referrals. The patient will be connected to the services that deal with mental health issues. This will provide success for the patients trying to make a clean break from bad habits.

Skill Development

Independent living is vital and part of recovery. Self-sufficiency is taught to individuals who are under the care of a center. Skills that are taught include time management and how to handle finances.

Housing Assistance

A person is provided housing advocacy by the center providing their assistance. This helps the client locate appropriate living accommodations. Other skills taught include maintaining of a home as well as relationships. Stress management techniques are also taught to help the client with life.

Third storm’s the charm

Sunday, Jan. 22 2012 7:00 am.

It’s on, Tahoe.

The third in a series of winter storms to sweep through the Sierra is on track for arrival later today, and it looks like a beauty.

This system is tapping into enough moisture to drop more than an inch of water-content precipitation above 5000 feet and perhaps two inches at the Sierra Crest by noon Monday. With colder temperatures and decent snow-to-water ratios, that should translate into around a foot of snow at the Lake and up to two feet above 7000 feet.

Temperatures will not be super cold, but they will be colder than with Friday’s storm, fortunately. Look for lows in the low 20s tonight and highs in the mid-20s at 7000 feet Monday. Snow levels will be around 4,500 feet to 5,000 feet on the western slope throughout the event.

Snow is forecast to taper to snow showers on Monday as this system moves east.

Two more waves out of the Northwest on Tuesday and Wednesday are on track to miss Tahoe as they skirt by to our north, so the rest of the week looks pretty dry.

But after this storm, it should at least look, and feel, like winter for a while.

Specifically Created Young Adult Drug Treatment

The young adult drug program techniques need to be structured differently from older adults for a number of reasons. These are young women and men between eighteen and twenty-five years of age. The most fundamental difference is that human brains continue to develop until the age of thirty.

Permanent Damage

Alcohol or any other form of addiction before the brain is fully developed can cause permanent damage. This is a huge problem. In 2000, more than 100,000 men and women between 18 and 25 were in rehabilitation. The actual number of people in this group who had addiction problems but who lacked the resources to get a place in a program was likely much, much higher.

The Three Priorities

Psychologists describe three key tasks that an individual completes during their formative years. These are to find a mate, to become independent from their parents and to identify their life’s work. Being distracted by an addiction or other mental health problem interferes with this natural progression.

12 Steps

Many rehabilitation programs employ the now-familiar Twelve-Step program. This was established originally to help alcoholics overcome their addiction and its associated problems. First, they admit that they are powerless over their addictions. Next, they acknowledge that there is a higher power in whom they can find strength to overcome their problems. Finally, they are encouraged to make a list of those who have been damaged by their actions and to find them and make amends.

Gender

Young women have very different needs from those of men and their rehabilitation must be structured accordingly. Their treatment needs to be planned with their age and gender in mind. Women are more easily addicted. Alcohol or drug dependence can force them into harmful relationships with people who manipulate them for their own gain.Men, too, have needs that are specific to their gender. These are the years when they establish their own identity. They require understanding as they metamorphose from adolescence to becoming an adult.

The Atheist and Rehab

The 12 Step paradigm that forms the basis of so many intensive outpatient services is based on the belief in a higher power. What provision is made for atheists who do not acknowledge the existence of such an entity or those who prefer not to apportion blame for their difficulties? Finally, recovering from addiction is fraught with enough difficulties and they do not need the added burden of feeling like a failure for not subscribing to certain beliefs. This population responds well to methods that have a foundation in science. Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Behavior Therapy and Motivation Enhancement Therapy have all been demonstrated to be effective in this particular population.

Specialized Sobriety Programs For Women

If you are a woman seeking a life away from addiction, you may wish to consider sober living for women facilities. This kind of housing can help you prepare yourself for a new way of life. Here is additional information including some of the benefits.

Residential Location

A typical sobriety residence is located in a normal residential neighborhood. There could be a few residents or as many as thirty. If you choose to live in one of the homes you will be sharing a bedroom in a communal living environment. You are also required to pay rent every month. You will need to be gainfully employed if you are physically and mentally able.

Rules

When you are in a sobriety home, you must follow their rules to the letter. These places will not tolerate any kind of drug or alcohol on the premises and these substances can not be used by the residents, even when they are away from the facility. You also must get along with the other residents without serious conflict. Violators of these rules face penalties including eviction without notice.

Drug Testing

If you are a resident in a sobriety home you could be subject to random drug testing at any given time. There are house rules that you must abide by like adhering to curfews. These homes are not for someone in need of detox but they are for people who are in the process of changing their lives.

Learning Opportunity

Sober living for women facilities provide a learning experience for the people who live there. They get the chance to focus on and experience a life without drugs or alcohol. For many people, this is something entirely new in their lives and they will need help and support for these important life changes. Everyone in the house will be supportive and understanding to each other’s needs.

Recovery Programs

A sobriety facility promotes a life with no drugs or alcohol. The time you spend there is aimed at helping you with your young adult alcohol rehabilitation. If you need to talk to counselors, they will be available to you. You are expected to attend regular meetings with recovery programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous. This is usually a mandatory requirement. These facilities are a good place to learn how to function in a normal work and home schedule. For some residents, this will be an entirely new experience and requires adjustment.

Family and Friends

A sobriety residence lets a woman get back with family and friends who are a good influence in her life. It is important to stay away from friends that use drugs or alcohol as they may lure you back into a life of addiction. Your new residence will give you the time you need to make new friends and contacts.

Snow in Tahoe by Thursday night

Jan. 18 2012

Remember winter?

It’s finally about to start, folks.

The leading edge of the first in a series of storms is moving into Oregon and far Northern California this morning. This system will mainly affect the Cascades and the far Northern Sierra, where a few inches of snow are possible.

The next system is due Thursday and should reach Tahoe by Thursday afternoon.

Snow levels will start out around 7000 feet before falling Thursday night.

It looks like this wave has the potential to drop about six inches of snow on the higher elevations and an inch or two around the lake by Friday morning.

After a short lull, the biggest and warmest storm in this series is on track for a Friday arrival. Snow levels will likely rise again as the warm Pacific moisture plume pushes in ahead of the cold air from the north. At first we will probably see rain below about 7500 feet. But snow levels should drop by Saturday morning as the front moves through, and that should be soon enough to deposit several more inches of snow around the lake. Above 7500 or 8000 feet we should see a total of about two feet from these first two storms.

After another break a third storm is due on Sunday. The forecast models are still in conflict about the timing. Some models show the next storm arriving late Saturday or early Sunday, and others not until later on Sunday. Either way it will be the coldest of the bunch, and it looks like it has the potential to give us at least a foot of snow at Lake level and a bit more above the mountain passes.

Beyond that things are murkier. One forecast model shows a ridge of high pressure building and the start of a drying trend, while another leaves the storm door open for at least another day or two.

But for now let’s focus on what seems likely: at least two to three feet of snow above 8000 feet, with a foot or snow below the mountain passes. That might be a bit on the conservative side. But we don’t want to oversell this and be disappointed if the big snow totals fail to materialize.

Have fun. Be safe.

Stay tuned for more details as the week unfolds.

Two Intense Approaches To Heroin Addiction Medical Detox

Diamorphine, or heroin, as it is more commonly known, is the deadliest and most destructive of the twenty most widely used recreational drugs. It is the most destructive both in terms of the physical harm it causes and the potential for addiction. Most methods of heroin addiction medical detoxification utilize either the 12-Step Program, widely accepted by recovering alcoholics, chemical analogues or antagonists that compete with the drug for opiate binding sites. These antagonists do not induce the same sense of euphoria as the addictive substance but they do bypass the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms that cause so many attempts at detox to fail.

Methods

Two extreme approaches to diamorphine detoxification are presented. One, called instant detox, involves injecting a combination of drugs while the patient is under an anesthetic. Reportedly, the body is cleansed of the drug within twenty minutes. The patient is required to take oral naltrexone for a year afterward. At the other extreme is do-it-yourself cold turkey, a methodical process of discontinuing the drug without checking into a clinic or attending family drug addiction counseling.

Instant Detox

Instant detox was first used by an Austrian doctor in 1988. He injected addicts with naloxone, the intravenous analogue to the oral naltrexone. By itself, the naloxone treatment cleared the drug but caused the patient immense discomfort. The doctor added a sedative to make the patients more comfortable. This approach reduces the drug clearance time from a period of several weeks down to a matter of a few days.

Cold Turkey

DIY cold turkey is the other extreme. Cold turkey is the term given to the process of suddenly stopping to take an addictive substance instead of using replacement medication or reducing the dose gradually. The DIY approach requires a bit of forward planning to make the process less distressing.

The Plan

Instead of waking up one morning and deciding today is the day to stop using heroin, the individual is advised to plan ahead and set aside a two-week period during which to stop taking the drug. Building up a small nest egg to use for intermittent rewards during the detoxification process is strongly encouraged to help succeed. The family is sent on vacation and friends are asked not to stop by or telephone during the detox period.

Where To Stay

Find a comfortable place to stay for the duration, some place where you can surround yourself with food and drink of your choice, watch television and read books. If your home isn’t suitable, stay with parents or non-addicted friends. This is not an easy way out. The first few days will be filled with painful muscle cramps, shivers, chills, depression and insomnia.

Rewards

By taking it one day at a time, setting small milestones and rewarding yourself with a nice meal, a DVD or a new outfit, it can be done. By the end of the two weeks, possibly sooner, your body will have expelled the drug and you will be on your way to complete rehabilitation and a drug-free, productive life.
